Thank you

Ever since I was a little kid, I was obsessed with why people laugh. I'm pretty sure, now, that we laugh when we relate. When we see a part of ourselves, often the strangest, gooeist parts, and we laugh in relief. Experiencing art of any kind has the power to do that.

After making Distance, I learned that the creation of stuff - especially the rare and ancient art of collaborating on a near-no-budget indie web series - does the same thing. In making Distance, I learned just how not alone I was. A whole flock of people from far and wide came to our aid lending their love, wit, and sandbags. Also some people gave money. That was really dope.

There are more people to thank than there is space on the internet. But here I am. Thank you.

Making Distance has been the greatest adventure of my life, and it would have been nothing without all of you. Thank you. Here's to the community we've built within which we can all make the stuff that helps us all feel a little bit less alone.

Alex Dobrenko

At one point I was driving every weekend to see my girlfriend: three hours on Friday until Sunday, three hours back. At some point I learned (from her) that she'd been cheating on me, routinely. Right there on the phone, my heart broke in 1,000 pieces Not since hearing the truth about Santa Claus had I felt so abandoned. It was a late-bloomed revelation to me that something existed other than the truth. That heartbreak taught me so much and in smaller and smaller and smaller waves, I'm still flinching from the experience. Contact David at davidleehess@gmail.com with the password: “Shandling,” and he'll send you a song he's written and performed.
